Tier 1 Volunteers

VOLUNTEERS

Capistrano Unified School District welcomes volunteers as an integral part of the classroom program, and the District encourages individuals to work in the classroom on a regular basis. Efforts may also extend to clerical assistance and support for extra-curricular programs and field trips. There are specific requirements for student-contact volunteers. Please check our Volunteer Handbook or your school site to learn more about volunteer opportunities within CUSD.

Types of Volunteers
CUSD has two types of volunteers: Tier 1 and Tier 2. Read on for information about the types of volunteer opportunities available. If you are unsure which type of volunteer you would be considered, please check with the office manager at your school site.

TIER 1 VOLUNTEERS

Tier 1 volunteers may have unsupervised contact with students and can include coaches, field trip chaperones/drivers, and tutors. Tier 1 volunteers undergo a more rigorous process before being approved. This process includes getting Fingerprinted through the Department of Justice/FBI.

To start the application process to become a Tier 1 Volunteer, click the link below to apply. You will need a valid Drivers License/Passport and will also be asked for some other identifying information through a secure server. Once the online application is completed, a Livescan form will be automatically sent to you which you can take to one of the Livescan centers to complete the Fingerprinting process. A list of Livescan providers is linked below.

A prospective Tier 1 volunteer should contact their school site two weeks after being fingerprinted to verify that their fingerprints have cleared. Once cleared, you may report to the school to volunteer.
