Middle school is not too early to begin considering an academic plan for college admissions. In addition to the above subject requirements, to be competitive with many private and selective colleges, students should consider completing 4 years of math, and 4 years of a foreign language during their high school years.  A student's performance in middle school will help prepare them for the academic challenges of high school.  
 
Exposure to a variety of electives is also beneficial in helping students identify their interests as they experience the middle school transition years between elementary and high school.  Additional areas students may begin to get involved with in middle school that colleges consider an important part of a student's application are:
 
Extracurricular activities including -

  • Music programs,
